The Kuehne Foundation, which was founded in Switzerland in 1976, has gained high esteem for its initiatives to promote training, further education and research in the fields of logistics and transport. At the same time, it supports projects in cultural and medical areas. The Kuehne Foundation is operationally active and initiates almost all of the projects it funds. The sole donor of this public trust foundation, Prof. Dr. h. c. Klaus-Michael Kuehne, regards his commitment to quality and sustainability as an important part of his social responsibility as an entrepreneur.
Logistics has become a key enabler in today’s global trade. And while today’s value creation networks exploit to the extent possible local business advantages, the challenges that come with these dispersed structures have grown substantially over the last ten years. Recognizing this trend, the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management founded the Kühne Institute for Logistics Management, which comprises two Chairs endowed by the Swiss Kühne Foundation and currently 20 doctoral students. The WHU’s objectives are to generate new insights for the management of logistics and to disseminate this state-of-the-art knowledge into the research and business community. To this end, the WHU conducts high quality and internationally visible research, which is analytical, conceptual, or empirical in nature.
